Welcome to Roots in the Wild — the story of a family, a trusty camper, and a whole lot of adventure — from nursing in creekbeds and changing diapers in rest stop parking lots, to navigating RV life on the road with an infant and dogs. This is the unfiltered journey of raising babies (and dogs!) while chasing freedom, fresh air, and family moments that matter most.

If you’ve ever dreamed of trading the picket fence for pine trees, or the monotonous daily grind for the ever-changing open road, then you’re in the right place. Think of this blog as part travel diary, part motherhood survival guide, sprinkled with humor, heart, and a reminder that home isn’t found in a place — it’s found in you.

So grab a cup of coffee (or reheat the one you forgot about two hours ago 😉) and come along for the ride. The WILD is waiting — and we’re finding our ROOTS right in the middle of it.

Hi, I’m Allyson — though my friends call me Ally — and if you’re here, consider yourself a friend.

I’m a coffee-fueled, adventure-chasing first-time mama raising my little boy in an RV on the open road with my husband and our two pups by my side. Over the last 8 years, my husband and I have called all sorts of unique DIY campers home, from vans and buses to our now beautiful RV. In those years, I’ve collected more wild stories than I can count. We’ve crossed country four times, boondocking and taking bucket showers in the desert. We’ve met some amazing people and truly lived a blessed life thus far.

Although life on the road looks charming from sunup to sundown on Instagram highlights, life isn’t always glamorous. Try getting stuck in Mount Saint Helens’ ashes without cell service after dark or breaking down over 10,000-foot passes in the desert of Wyoming on a 110-degree day.

I can honestly say, we’ve absolutely had the occasional “are we really doing this?” moment—but this life is ours. It’s messy, magical, and full of freedom. And no matter how we share, whether on YouTube, Instagram, or the ever-changing platforms out there these days, we try our best to represent all facets of our life—including the messy parts.

Through my blog, I share the real side of nomadic motherhood: the wins, the wipeouts, and everything in between. I hope to inspire you to chase simplicity, joy, and adventure—whether that means hitting the road in a camper with your family or simply finding little ways to slow down and savor home, wherever that may be.
